Liturgy Core Group

The Liturgy Group in Bearna meets monthly to prepare the Sunday masses and other liturgical events that may be arranged at different times of the year.  The members of the Liturgy Group are drawn from the many ministeries involved and include:

The Curam Group who clean and prepare the church for celebrations.  Usually there is a team on duty for each month of the year.  Thus volunteers commit to prepare the church for that one month.

Readers:  The Ministry of the Word is a vital part of our liturgical gatherings.  It is important the Word of God is proclaimed clearly to God's people.   Readers are the people entrusted with this task.  They read the lessons at weekday morning mass and at all Sunday masses and on Chruch Feastdays.   The Easter Ceremonies call on many of our readers to bring the Word alive.   Training is given to those who wish to read in church and people commit to read at the particular mass they usually attend.   During school time the Youth Readers take care of Saturday evening Mass and members of the Junior Group read at the Family Mass on Sundays.

Eucharistic Ministers: As with all ministries, Eucharistic Ministers serve the people of God, it is a ministry of service.  We are most familiar with Eucharistic Ministers distributing Holy Communion at masses in the parish.   However, Ministers of the eucharist also bring the Blessed Sacrament to those who are housebound and to thoise who live in Villa Maria (Local Nursing Home).  They may also be called on to give blessings during our Reconciliation Services.   Ministers are trained here in the parish as the need arises and also meet once or twice a year as a group for further reflection on the ministry.

Creative Liturgy: Decorating the church means flowers and much more. The first job for the Creative Liturgy Team is to ensure that there are suitable flowers in the church for weekend masses and events.   Over and above that the members of the team also design and devise displays for the different seasons of the year such as:  Harvest Thanksgiving, La Fheile Bhride, St. Patrick's Day, the Christmas Crib, Easter Sunday, Holy Thursday.  There is no limit to the imagination employed to make our sacred space one which draws us closer to the mystery of God's presence among us.

Church Stewards: There are many people who attend mass in Bearna and often the church is full to capacity.  The team of stewards offer assistance to those looking for seating.   They also play an important role in ensuring the safety of such numbers of people in a confined space.   it is important that we attend to their instructions at all times but especially when the church is crowded.

Church Collectors: Church Collectors are responsible for putting out the collection baskets at each mass and bringing them to the altar once the collection is done.   Sometimes they must put the baskets out again if there is a second collection.   All of this is done so that the parish may continue to have the resources to function.

Servers: Servers are drawn from 5th and 6th class children who attend mass in Bearna.  There is a recruitment and training in September and another one in January.   Servers are commissioned at the Mass of the Last Supper on Holy Thursday.

Of course, the most important involvement of people in Liturgy is that of the congregration.   The liturgy groups exists only to facilitate the fullest participation of the people of God as we gather to worship and pray.
